September 2019

Besides the usual engine maintenance the main input by Engineering this month was fitting air-brakes to our Class 31, adding a protective coating to our flatbed wagon, setting up an electrical signalling system linked to the frames in the main signal box and fitting additional floodlights to the depot.

P-Way work this month was wide ranging and seemingly endless. As the estate grass has temporarily stopped growing due to the heat and sun hands have now switched to greasing expansion joints and the hundreds of fish-plates around our track. Where necessary the track has also been repacked to smooth out occasional lumps and bumps. The carriage shed doors in the depot have been repainted in Southern Green and thoughts are now turning to replacing the windows in the main signal box at Brogdale Central

Some further good news is that Father Christmas has agreed to visit us on the first three Sundays of December subject to his grotto being done up and his reindeer’s being given the day off, or at least stabled along with his sledge around the back. Our 2019 Santa Specials will see the return of our FastPass booking system, with a twist, that for the first time ever we will be taking bookings online ONLY, with the system scheduled to be up and running shortly…….. more info in our next newsletter

Long term readers will recollect that we can offer kids’ Sunday party trains as well as bookable trips for school parties. But after the success of a works party trip during September we have now cautiously branched out into offering adult type party trips which can be made available on request via or contact Mick on 07 93 81 19 792

This month we had a visit from some railway enthusiasts from Dreiech in Germany which is a town within the Frankfurt Rhein-Main urban area. Our visitors were fascinated with what was on offer, particularly our stock of steam and various hand-built diesel engine types

As we always mention DIYers, engineers, signalmen, guards/drivers are more than welcome to join our Railway Society. We offer equal opportunities to anyone over 16 and any potential volunteers can contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the railway estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there
