Although the Railway is taking a break from public running there’s still quite a lot going on. For one thing Santa and his elves have had to recover from their Christmas specials.
From feedback these went down well with the kids. Our thanks to everyone who came, hope you enjoyed yourselves and apologies for the long queues and, on the last Sunday, that afternoon downpour.
The Christmas rains and winds meant quite a lot of clearing up to do in January. We had to remove one or two fallen trees and branches and clear up masses of brash and leaves from the tracks. Parts of the yard needed to bailed out as well but not as bad as last year when there was a flash flood!. All done now but quite a lot of work
Most of our other efforts have gone into re-kitting out the replacement sheds and sorting Santa’s Grotto, The carriage shed is being reorganised in advance of a major push in 2014 for building new carriages and refurbishing our existing stock
If you are a regular browser of our site you will have hopefully noticed that our IT Department have been making improvements such as links on our Home page direct to Facebook and UTube where we provide current video and stills updates. These now include the Christmas Specials.
Still no firm news on our new-build steam loco ‘Mogul’ but we hope 2014 will finally be the year when we can run steam again.
The Railway starts up again on the 2nd of March and as usual we run every Sunday, the first ride at 11.00 am and the last around 4.00 pm. We also run during Brogdale weekend festivals and Bank holidays as summarised on our website. Details of the various festivals can be found on Brogdale web pages
We are already taking on party bookings for 2014. Demand seems high so if anyone wants to have a railway based wedding reception or kids’ railway themed party contact Mick 01795 474211 or try our other contact details on this website. As ever our rates are very reasonable as we are a non-profit making society
New volunteer staff are always welcome to join our Railway Society. We are particularly interested in potential drivers, guards, signalmen, engineers and platform staff. DIY skills are also useful as is any cat-feeding expertise. If you visit us at Brogdale on most Tuesdays or Wednesdays or Sundays (11am-4pm) we’ll show you round and hopefully talk you into joining us!
